By adding a few steps a day into your work routine you can increase your physical activity as well as improve your overall health and well-being. The Ursinus Wellness committee invites all Ursinus employees to participate in the 5th Annual Stairs Challenge program.
The program is designed to increase the amount of physical activity employees engage in during working hours. By adding a few steps a day into your work routine you can improve your physical activity, overall health and well-being.
How the Program Works
Sign up for the challenge
Keep track of the number of stair steps you climb each day.
Submit your daily totals through the online tracking form each week for record-keeping progress.
The Bears on the Stairs Challenge goal is to accumulate at least 2600 stair steps in 4 weeks. Steps may be accrued in a manner that suits each employee’s personal plan, but the wellness committee has established weekly goals and incentives in order to encourage full participation throughout the month. For instance, by the end of week 2, participants should have attained at least 1100 steps in order to be eligible to win the raffle. The full goal/incentive schedule is as follows:
Week 1 500+ steps RAFFLE- exercise bag with infusion bottle and towel (5 winners)
Week 2 1,100 total steps RAFFLE – Book- Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise & the Brain (4 winners)
Week 3 1,800 total steps RAFFLE – Treat Bags (4 winners)
Week 4 2,600 total steps T-shirt for the top 100 participants
Grand Prize Raffle 10,000+ total steps
If you achieve over 10,000+ steps, you are eligible for the Grand Prize raffle (new sneakers from Valley Forge Running Co.).
The challenge will begin on March 2nd and run through March 29th. You may complete the Online Bears on the Stairs Challenge Tracking Form EVERY Monday to be eligible for prizes and raffles.
Specific Challenge Instructions:
Throughout the day keep track of the number of stair steps you’ve taken. Use the Campus Stairwell Map to assist you in the process. At the end of the day, add up your total number of stair steps. At the end of the week, add up your weekly total and submit your form. These totals will be considered for incentives and prizes and added to your grand total at the end of the program. Note: steps count going up AND down. Also, you are encouraged to include your stair steps off campus (e.g. at home, at the mall)—especially on the weekends.
